CIA INSURANCE won the annual Insurance Endurance go-kart race at Daytona in Milton Keynes on Friday, September 18th at its first attempt.
Facing opposition from established and experienced teams, CIA Insurance entered two teams into the six-hour endurance race that was set at the 1300metre track in perfect sunny weather conditions.
CIA Insurance 1 was eventually victorious by six laps despite being black-flagged four times for various rule infractions. The four-strong team was fiercely competitive and the urgency to win very familiar to them all, from team captain and former triple British Superbike Champion John Reynolds, former British Supersport Champion Michael Laverty, former British Supersport Champion and current World Supersport Championship leader Cal Crutchlow and current World Supersport Championship runner-up Eugene Laverty.
Eugene Laverty set the fastest lap of the day at 1m08.888secs. He goes to Imola in Italy this weekend hoping to try and beat Crutchlow on two wheels and add to his three World Supersport Championship wins this season so far. Crutchlow on the other hand has a 22-point lead over Laverty with just 75-points remaining and five wins to his name this season. Both riders proudly sport the CIA Insurance logo on their leathers in the races.
“CIA Insurance is an expert in bike insurance and our four drivers at Insurance Endurance were all from the bike racing world,” explained Head of Sales Martin Sheppard. “The boys did a great job, although with the regular black flags they made it harder on themselves than needed. It took JR’s incredible drive to win to get them back on track and in contention.
“They were pushed hard by the Lamp Champs and Sagicor but despite their in-experience, real race craft and speed showed through. It was a great event and thoroughly enjoyable to be part of it.”
CIA Insurance 2 sported a more relaxed team with eight drivers sharing the duties and eventually finishing a credible 11th, despite running as high as fifth at one point. A trio of black flags didn’t help either. Sheppard said: “It was a blast racing the circuit and our best lap time was only two-seconds behind Eugene, which is pretty good.”
